MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: May 11

Stauffer has another strong outing

Another strong night for the system as the T-Pads, Storm and TinCaps win. The Missions split a double-header and Tim Stauffer takes the honors as tonight's top pitcher.

T-Pads 6 - Round Rock Express 1

Key Statistics: 1B Allen 2-3, BB, SB (two in the game, three for the season); C Rivera 2-4, RBI; DH C. Decker 1-4, 2 RBIs; J. Decker 3-4; RHP Tim Stauffer (W, 3-2) 7.0 IP 5 H R ER BB 6 Ks.

Prospect Watch: Another strong outing by Tim Stauffer by former Padres' opening day starter. After struggling in his first two outings he has not allowed more than two earned runs in his next six. Many of his peripheral numbers aren't going to look great but a 3.16 ERA in the Thunderdomes of the PCL is good...Jaff Decker is starting to really come on. He was hitting .220 on May 3 and after tonight's game is now hitting .286. Coming into the game he had a .968 OPS in May and is playing all three outfield position although the majority of his time is in right. Jaff has been much more willing to go the other way this season as opposed to in the past. Tonight he hit two singles to left field when in the past he may have rolled over them or taken them for strikes...Nice to see Cody Decker back in Tucson and getting regular playing time.

Midland Rockhounds 6 - Missions 2

first game

Key Statistics: RF Fuentes 3-4, 2B, SB(2, 17); LF Sams 1-2, HR (3), RBI, BB; RHP Sampson (L, 0-3) 0-3 5 H 3 R 2 BB 4 Ks.

Prospect Watch: Keyvius Sampson's struggles continue as Texas League batters are now hitting .302 against him as he continues to search for his first win of the season in seven starts between San Antonio and Tucson. With the talent and depth the Padres with pitching in their system he is going to have to turn it around fast..Fuentes stole his seventeenth base of the season a number he didn't reach until the end of June last year.

Missions 6 - Midland Rockhounds 5

second game

Key Statistics: CF Fuentes 1-2, HR, RBI, BB; 2B Buschini 1-3, HR, 3 RBI; RHP Geer 3.1 IP 5 H 3 R 2 ER 2 BB K HR; RHP Stites (W, 2-1) 1.0 IP BB 2 Ks; RHP Quackenbush (S, 5) 1.0 IP BB, 2 Ks.

Prospect Watch: In a blast from the past the Missions started Josh Geer, who was the 2007 Texas League Pitcher of the Year on a team that won the league championship. Geer has been attempting to get back to the major leagues as a long reliever...Fuentes now has 14 extra-base hits on the season which half of what he was able to get all last year. It might be time to start drinking the Kool-Aid after a disappointing 2012. He's only twenty-two and has all the tools...They aren't on the forty-man roster yet but there will be some consideration in a few months if both Matt Stites and Kevin Quackenbush keep performing the way they do. Quackenbush has a 0.61 ERA as the Texas League is hitting .118 against him.

Storm 7 - Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 2

Key Statistics: C Kral 2-3, HR(7), 3 RBIs, BB; CF Jankowski 2-4; RF Ascencio 1-4, 2B, BB; RHP Jackson (W, 1-1) 5.1 IP 8 H 2 R 2 ER 2 BB 3 Ks HR.

Prospect Watch: Robert Kral crushed a two-run home run to right-center in the fourth inning, an RBI single in the second and caught the attention of Bob Chandler on Saturday night Padres' pre-game show on the Mighty 1090; its been that type of season for him. The twenty-four year old Kral is now leading the organization in home runs with seven and hitting .348/.469/.758. Coming into the game of his twenty-three hits 14 have gone for extra bases. When Austin Hedges comes back he's going to play but someone is going to have to carve out playing time for Kral .

TinCaps 5 - Dayton Dragons 3

Key Statistics: C Phillips 3-5, 2B, HR(3) , RBI; LF Martiniez 1-3, SB (4),BB; SS Carmon 1-3, RBI, BB; CF Adams 1-4, HR (4); RHP Eflin (W 1-3) 6.0 IP 2 R 2 ER 3 Ks HR; RHP Campos (S( 1.2 IP BB 2 Ks.

Prospect Watch: Eflin picked up his first professional career win with a strong performance on Saturday night. The 2012 first round supplemental pick had struggled with his command coming into the game with a 14/11 K/BB ratio..Big night by catcher Dane Phillips, who had been in a mini-slump in May hitting .158. The left-handed hitter has an OPS of .952 this season and has been the TinCaps best hitter.
