Almost from the moment he officially became a free agent, Adam Dunn was rumored to be coming to Washington. Now, almost three months after the free agency signing period started, Dunn is officially a Nat.

What took you so long?

On Thursday, the Nationals will officially announce one of the worst kept secrets in baseball when they introduce Adam Dunn. The signing gives the Nationals a big bat for their lineup, something that was sorely missing from their 2008 club.

Dunn has hit exactly 40 home runs in each of the past four seasons and hit 46 the year prior to that, giving him an impressive streak of 206 home runs over the past five seasons. During that time, he has also averaged playing in 158 games per season. The majority of his career has been spent in Cincinnati, where he was originally drafted by current Nationals GM Jim Bowden. Last season, the Reds dealt Dunn to Arizona last August.

Where Dunn is going to play is still up in the air. His defense is a major shortcoming and while he's spent most of his career in left field, the Nationals crowded outfield mix could put him at first base, where he has also played during his career. Of course, Nick Johnson and Dmitri Young - also both left-handed hitters - were set to battle for that spot, but both have suffered through injury and health problems since signing with the Nationals.

The terms of the deal have not yet been announced.
