P-Nats Move Into First Place

Marcos Yepez had one hit and it was a big one as he drove a 2-2 pitch over the center-field wall to give Potomac a thrilling 5-3 win in 12 innings over Wilmington and sole-possession of first place.

With losses by Lynchburg and Frederick, the win propelled Potomac into first place in the Carolina League's Northern Division and hold a one-game lead over Frederick and Wilmington while only leading Lynchburg by half a game.

Brandon Powell was destined to be the star of the game early on as he hit a pair of solo home runs and scored a run following a triple to put Potomac up 3-0 through six innings.

Then the gas ran out of Collin Balester and Dan Foli filled up the bases as Wilmington scored three times in the seventh to tie it.

Balester allowed a four-pitch walk and a single to start the inning before Foli took over. He responded by getting Ian Bladergroen to fly out then walked the next two batters scoring a run. Light-hitting Dominic Ramos then reached on an error by Luke Montz at first scoring another before Foli wlked Jacoby Ellsbury to tie the game.

Jeremy Plexico then got Jeff Corsaletti to fly out and on the play, Jon de Vries was thrown out at the plate trying to score.

Plexico teamed with Jim Henderson and Brett Campbell (1-0) to shutdown the Blue Rocks the rest of the way.

These two teams will take the field again Tuesday night on Two-For-Tuesday presented by Bartles & Jaymes. All fans can purchase two Reserved or Grandstand tickets for the price of one. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
