When he got hurt, Lowrance was hitting .346 for Savannah. Once he returned, Lowrance was able to put himself back on track and hit .280 over the rest of the season to finish the year with a .288 average, right about where he finished in 2004 when he hit .289 with Vermont. That consistency is something that will serve Lowrance well.
"I feel like my consistency at the plate has been my greatest asset," said Lowrance. I feel like my team can count on me in any situation whether runners are on or the bases are empty."
Before the season started, P-Nats manager Randy Knorr told CapitolDugout that he believed Lowrance could be a quality hitter. "We really think he can be a special player because he's got such a good bat. Before he was hurt, we really saw a lot from him."
Up until now, it's pretty much been all about the offense for Lowrance. His defensive skills have been suspect, but on the upside, he knows his skills need work and he's willing to do whatever it takes to improve. During the off-season, Lowrance continued to rehab on his knee and work on his defensive skills. "I'm continuing to work on getting jumps on the ball. I believe that most of my improvement will be made just by playing in left field every night," said Lowrance.
At just 21, Lowrance has time to perfect his skills and if he stays healthy, there's no reason to believe that he won't become a stronger player both at the plate and in the outfield. Lowrance currently has a seven-game hitting streak and is hitting .296 (8-for-27) during the streak. He's also hit in 10 of the last 11 games and in 12 of the 14 games that he's played in this season. Even with the consistency, his average isn't near where it was at this time last year - he's hitting .286 for Potomac now - but consistency is the key and everything else will follow. As for the defensive improvements, Lowrance has committed just one error in 13 games in the outfield this season.
