Haynes, Castro Take POW Honors

Dee Haynes stayed hot and Kory Castro got hot, with both of the Nats' farm hands winning Player of the Week honors in their respective leagues.

Haynes shines again in Harrisburg

The Harrisburg Senators announced today that outfielder Dee Haynes has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week… for a second time. This marks the second straight week that, Haynes, a Columbus, Mississippi native, has won the Award.

The 27-year old had an excellent week, batting .469 (15-for-32) with one double, one triple, three home runs, 11 RBI, eight runs scored and a .875 slugging percentage in seven games for the Senators.

The 6'0", 205 lb. slugger has been playing outstanding baseball since joining Harrisburg on May 13th, batting .411 (30-for-73) with six doubles, one triple, six home runs, 25 RBI and 13 runs scored in 17 games with the Senators. Dee was acquired by the Washington Nationals in a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals on May 4th, 2005.

And in Potomac

Potomac Nationals third baseman Kory Casto was named the Carolina League player of the week for the week ending May 29, 2005. Casto is the No. 9 prospect in the Washington organization according to Baseball America.

Casto put together a 14-game hit streak including doubles in 11 consecutive games. In five games last week, he went 10-for-23, with five doubles, four RBIs and five runs scored. His batting average and on-base percentage were both .435, and his slugging percentage was .522.
