Woodbridge, VA – Potomac Cannons owner Art Silber will announce the team's new name and logo at the 10th Annual Hot Stove Banquet and Silent Auction on Sunday, February 13 at the Hyatt Fair Lakes in Fairfax.
The announcement will take place at 6:30 p.m. The Cannons signed a two-year Player Developement Contract with the then-Montreal Expos following the 2004 season and 2005 marks Potomac's first season as an affiliate of the
Washington Nationals
. The franchise has called G. Richard Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge, VA home since the 1984 season and has been affiliated with the Pittsburg Pirates (1981-86),
New York Yankees
(1987-93),
Chicago White Sox
(1994-96),
St. Louis Cardinals
(1997-2002) and
Cincinnati Reds
(2003-04).
Media members who wish to attend should RSVP to Amy Plourd at aplourd@potomaccannons.com or 703- 590-2311 ext. 227. The event has been sold out and tickets are no longer available to the general public.
The 10th Annual Hot Stove Banquet and Silent Auction will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by a seated dinner and program featuring keynote speaker Adam Wogan, the Washington Nationals Director of Player Development, and guest speaker Bob Henley, the 2005 Potomac Manager.
Dozens of professional sports teams have donated items to be auctioned off along with autographed memorabilia from Washington area teams. This year, proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the Prince William County Education Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to improving student achievement in the Prince William community and sponsor of the Education Foundation Innovative Grants program.
The banquet will also recognize the Cannons Fan of the Year, and honor the Prince William County High School Baseball and Softball Players of the Year.
The Cannons 2005 season begins on April 8 in Salem, with the home opener on April 18 vs. Lynchburg at Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge, VA.
