No Rangers appeared in the Dominican Republic on Friday, as the Tigres del Licey vs. Gigantes del Cibao game was postponed due to rain.
After hitting near the bottom of the Navegantes' lineup in his first few games, shortstop Elvis Andrus moved to the leadoff spot on Friday. The result was the same, though, as Andrus went hitless in four at-bats, striking out once.
The 24-year-old Andrus is now 0-for-12 with two walks and a strikeout in his first four winterball contests.
The Tigres de Aragua turned five double plays in their 7-4 victory over Margarita, and second baseman Yangervis Solarte was involved in four of them. At the plate, Solarte went 0-for-3 but brought home a run with a sacrifice fly.
After beginning his offseason with the Surprise Saguaros of the Arizona Fall League, submarining reliever Ben Rowen is now taking his talents to Caracas.
The 24-year-old Rowen, who was placed on the Leones del Caracas roster earlier this week, made his winterball debut with their Liga Paralela club on Friday. He tossed a scoreless fifth inning against Zulia, working around a walk and striking out a batter.
Rowen pitched with 2012 Myrtle Beach teammate Edwin Garcia manning shortstop behind him. Garcia went hitless in four at-bats, dropping his batting average to .236 in 33 contests.
Garcia leads his Caracas team both in games played (33) and at-bats (106). He currently has a .236/.336/.340 slash line with five doubles and two home runs to go along with 16 walks and seven strikeouts.
Tiburones first baseman Jhonny Gomez (.371/.462/.538) went 1-for-4 with his 11th double in 34 games. He also drew a walk and knocked home a run.
Making a relief appearance for the Tiburones, right-hander Arlett Mavare was tagged for four runs in an inning. The Venezuela native struck out the side but yielded three hits and plunked two batters.
Caimanes leadoff man Diego Cedeno (.311/.410/.356) went 1-for-4 with an RBI and his sixth stolen base in 10 attempts.
No Rangers appeared in Mexico on Friday.
Left fielder Jared Hoying (0/3) and catchers Zach Zaneski (0/3) and Kevin Torres (0/1) all went hitless in Ponce's 11-4 loss to Santurce.
In his first five winterball games, the 23-year-old Hoying is 5-for-20 (.250) with a double. He's walked once, hasn't struck out, and stolen one base. Zaneski is 3-for-10 with a double in three games while Torres is without a hit in eight at-bats over six contests.
Coming out of the bullpen for Ponce, sidearming left-hander Alexander Claudio issued a walk before getting an inning-ending strikeout. Righty Anyelo Leclerc followed by surrendering three runs on four hits in two innings.
The 21-year-old Leclerc has scuffled in six relief appearances in Puerto Rico. Over nine innings, he's yielded nine runs (eight earned) on nine hits, walking five and striking out eight. A native of the Dominican Republic, Leclerc posted a 2.96 ERA in 14 games (seven starts) with the rookie-level Surprise Rangers during the regular season.
Brisbane leadoff hitter Hirotoshi Onaka (.327/.459/.429) had his five-game hitting streak snapped after he went hitless in four official at-bats. The Japan native walked once and struck out twice.
